Kootenay 3 Calgary 1

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE goalie Nathan Lieuwen made 35 saves in a 3-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Saturday night.

ICE opened the scoring as Jesse Ismond found a loose puck near the net and flipped it in.
Calgary tied it 1-1 on breakaway as Ian Schultz scored on a high backhand.
With the clubs skating 4-on-4 Andrew Bailey scored on a 2-on-1 after receiving a pass from Matt Fraser.
Ismond scored his 2nd of the game on a power-play as he redirected as pass in the crease from Max Reinhart.

The ICE had only 14 skaters in the line-up and 7 of them were rookies.
Earlier in the day the ICE traded defenseman John Negrin and forward Michael Stickland to Swift Current for 17-year-old defenseman James Martin, 16-year-old forward Christian Magnus and 2nd & 4th round picks in the 2010 Bantam Draft.

The ICE will host Calgary again on Thursday.
