The Weekly ICE Report

ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter this week’s action with a 1-1-0-0 record (1-0-0-0 at home, 0-1-0-0 on the road, 0-0-0 in overtime) and tied for second place in the CENTRAL DIVISION…The ICE finished the 2008-2009 regular season with a 35-29-2-6 record (21-11-1-3 at home, 14-18-1-3 on the road, 9-2-6 in overtime) and in sixth place in the EASTERN CONFERENCE and ninth overall in the WHL…The ICE will play their next three games at home before embarking on a six game road trip (October 3 – 12).

SEASON TICKETS: Fans wishing to purchase Season Tickets can still get them until 5:00 pm on Monday, September 28…The ICE Office currently has many great seats up for grabs…On Tuesday, September 29 individual game tickets for the remainder of the 2009-2010 regular season will go on sale to the general public.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD NIGHT: When KOOTENAY hosts the EDMONTON OIL KINGS on Wednesday, September 23 it will be OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD NIGHT…Fans in attendance will be able to collect their shoeboxes at the exits after the game.

PEAK PERFORMANCE MOTORSPORTS NIGHT: On Saturday, September 26 when the ICE host the MEDICINE HAT TIGERS it will be PEAK PERFORMANCE MOTORSPORTS NIGHT…Fans will have the opportunity to pick up hats and t-shirts during one of the intermissions.

SUBWAY CENTRAL DIVISION CHALLENGE CUP: This season KOOTENAY will be facing off against the rest of the CENTRAL DIVISION for a different kind of trophy…The SUBWAY CENTRAL DIVISION CHALLENGE CUP tallies points from head-to-head meetings in the CENTRAL DIVISION and the team with the most points in those head-to-heads at the end of the regular season will be awarded the SUBWAY CENTRAL DIVISION CHALLENGE CUP…Fans can get involved by answering weekly trivia questions to win prizes…To get to the CHALLENGE CUP webpage click on the link at www.kootenayice.net

ROSTER UPDATE: The ICE have 24 players on their roster, including two goalies, eight defensemen and 14 forwards…KOOTENAY begins the 2009-2010 season with 16 returning players from last year.

DID YOU KNOW: The ICE are 7-3-2 in season openers (4-1-1 at home, 3-2-1 on the road)…KOOTENAY finished the 2008 – 2009 regular season with an above .500 record for the tenth consecutive year, which is the longest active streak in the WHL…The ICE made their 11th consecutive playoff appearance last season and were defeated by the BRANDON WHEAT KINGS in the EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTER FINAL…The ICE were 18-13-0-3 against teams from the CENTRAL DIVISION during the 2008-2009 season (12-4-0-1 at home, 6-9-0-2 on the road, 1-6 in overtime).

TRANSACTION: Goaltender DYLAN TAIT (March 1, 1991) has been reassigned to the QUESNEL MILLIONAIRES of the BCHL.

ONE YEAR AGO: After three games of the 2008-2009 season the ICE were 1-1-0-1, after four games 1-2-0-1 and after five games 2-2-0-1.

DRAFTED PLAYER: BRAYDEN MCNABB – Buffalo Sabres (3rd Round, 2009 NHL Draft).
