Kootenay 3 Edmonton 2 SO

Cranbrook, BC – The Kootenay ICE beat Edmonton 3-2 in an overtime shootout in WHL action on Wednesday night.

Edmonton opened the scoring as Dylan Wruck found a rebound in the bottom of the circle and his shot was deflected off a stick, went in the air over the goalies’s head and landed on the goal line and trickled into the net.
Breant Raedeke made it 2-0 on the power-play as he as on a 2-on-1 break and scored with a wrist shot high on the stickside.
ICE scored just after a powerplay ended as Hayden Rintoul’s point shot was deflected in by Steele Boomer who was skating through the low slot.
The ICE forced overtime as rookie Brock Montgomery scored his 1st career goal on a goal mouth scramble.
ICE forward Jesse Ismond was the only player to score n the shootout as the ICE won 1-0.

The crowd was the smallest ever for a regular season game at the Rec-Plex.

It was the first of 6 meeting this season between the clubs. Last year Edmonton won the season series 4-2.

The Oil Kings are in their 3rd year in the WHL. In 1998, when the ICE were in their 3rd year, they moved from Edmonton to Cranbrook.

ICE forward Christian Magnus suffered a broken finger at practice and is out 4-6 weeks.
17-year-old ICE forward Elgin Pearce and 17-year-old ICE defensemen Luke Paulsen each played in their 1st WHL game.

The ICE will host Medicine Hat on Saturday. The Oil Kings will visit Saskatoon and Prince Albert on the weekend.
