Calgary 3 Kootenay 1 Game #33

Cranbrook, BC – Calgary goalie Martin Jones made 24 saves and got help with 4 goal posts in a 3-1 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Friday night.

The 1st goal of the game came late in the 2nd period as Brandon Kozun batted in a high rebound. The puck was ruled a legal goal by the referee. Video replay was used but the camera over the net couldn't give the angle to overrule the call.
The referees did not have access to another camera view which showed it was a high stick and shouldn't have been a goal.

ICE tied the score 1-1 as Jesse Ismond wristed a shot from the middle slot that beat Jones low on the glove side. It was the goal that sent over 2,300 donations onto the ice surface on Teddy Bear and Mitten toss night.

Calgary got the game winner on the powerplay as Kris Foucault’s wrist shot glanced on the goal post and beat the screened goalie.
The ICE were on a power-play while trailing 2-1 and Calgary's Michael Stone was in his own zone and shot the puck into the crowd over the ICE players' bench. One referee looked like he was going to call the delay of game penalty to give the ICE a 2-man advantage for 1 minute. The officials then ruled that it was defelcted off an ICE stick. After the game the ICE viewed the replay and the ICE players' stick was on the other side of the Hitmen players' stick and couldn't have deflected the puck out of play.
Hitmen got insurance as defenseman Kyle Aschim scored his 1st career goal with a long wrist shot that beat the screened goalie high on the glove side.

ICE scratches – Dominik Pacovsky 8th game (ankle 2-4 weeks), Luke Paulsen & Elgin Pearce.

Calgary forward Brandon Kozun (WHL scoring leader) and goalie Martin Jones will now leave the club to attend Canada’s WJHC camp.

The ICE will visit Calgary on Sunday.
