Kootenay 5 Red Deer 4 SO Game #39

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Dustin Sylvester had 1 goal and 2 assists and another goal in the shootout in a 5-4 overtime shootout win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action on Tuesday night.

The ICE scored 2 goals 17-seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead.
On the 1st goal Brayden McNabb stepped into a long slap shot from the blueline and Steele Boomer pounced on the rebound.
Dustin Sylvester picked off a pass at the Rebels’ blueline and went in on a breakaway and scored with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Rebels’ called a timeout.
Red Deer scored on a 3-on-2 break as Andrej Kudrna scored on a rebound.

In the 2nd period Drew Czerwonka deflected a point shot from Jagger Dirk that skipped into the net.
Rebels changed goalies as Darcy Kuemper replaced Kraymer Barnstable.
On a 3-on-2 break Landon Ferraro was fed with a cross pass from Kudrna and wristed it by the sliding goalie.
The teams’ exchanged goals 13 seconds apart late in the period.
ICE Kevin King beat the screened goalie with a high wrist shot from the top of the circle.
Then the ICE coughed-up the puck in front of their net and John Persson eventually was wide open for the goal.

Rebels forced overtime as Landon Ferraro got his 2nd of the game with a high backhand from the middle slot.

ICE won the shootout on goals by Max Reinhart and Dustin Sylvester. Rebels shooters were Willie Coetzee and Landon Ferraro.

The ICE have won a season high 5 games in a row.

The season series is tied 2-2 with each team winning a game in extra time.

ICE scratches – Dominik Pacovsky 14th game (ankle 3 weeks), Luke Paulsen & Elgin Pearce.

ICE will host Regina on New Years’ Eve Thursday.
