Spokane 6 Kootenay 4 Game #61

Cranbrook, BC – Spokane Chiefs beat the Kootenay ICE 6-4 in WHL action on Friday night.

Chiefs opened the scoring early in the game as Kenton Miller stole the puck in the ICE zone and Anthony Bardaro took it to the low slot and beat the goalie low on the glove side.
Stefan Ulmer made it 2-0 with a screened shot from the blueline.
ICE got within a goal as Matt Fraser scored from behind the net that banked off the back of the goalie.
Fraser got involved in a fight and didn’t return.
Spokane regained a 2 goal lead as the Kyle Beach scored his league leading 46th as he was left open in front of the net and one-timed a pass from Blake Gal.

ICE scored 2 goals in less than 2 minutes to tie the game 3-3.
Dustin Sylvester caught a high pass at the Chiefs blueline and went in on a shorthanded breakaway and scored with a high shot on the stick side. It was his 3rd SHG of the year and 13th of his career.
After the penalty to Jesse Ismond ended he came out of the penalty box and knocked Mitch Wahl down at centre ice to send Max Reinhart on a 2-on1 break and he scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
ICE took a 4-3 lead as Brayden McNabb scored onfrom the left wing boards the beat the screened goalie high on the glove side.
Spokane tied the game 26 seconds later as Ulmer got his 2nd of the game with a long shot from the blueline that went off the goalies arm into the net.

Chiefs scored early in the 3rd period as Ulmer’s long point shot was stopped but the rebound went to Brady Brassary had on open net.
Levko Koper added an empty net just before the buzzer.

It was the first time in ICE history they would go an entire game without a power-play opportunity.

ICE scratches – Brock Montgomery 3rd game (shoulder 2-3 weeks) and Luke Paulsen.

The ICE will visit Lethbridge on Saturday.
