Kootenay 2 Edmonton 1 Game #72

Cranbrook, BC – The Kootenay ICE clinched 4th place in the East Conference with a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in WHL action on Saturday.

Ice opened the scoring as Dustin Sylvester gained the Edmonton zone and hit the trailing defenseman James Martin scored on a slap shot that beat the screened goalie high on the glove side.

In the second period the Oil Kings tied the game 1-1 on a deflection by Sebastien Svendsen after a face-off win in the ICE none.
ICE regained the lead as Kevin King had a partial breakaway and scored with a wrist shot on the stick side.

Oil Kings goalie Laurent Brossoit made his 1st WHL start and 3rd WHL appearance.

ICE scratches – Luke Paulsen and Brendan Hurley.

The ICE will meet Medicine Hat in the first round of the playoffs.
