Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE scored 2 powerplay goals against the top ranked Red Deer penalty kill in a 4-1 in WHL action on Friday night.
ICE opened the scoring off a face-off win in the Red Deer zone and defenseman James Martin’s slap shot beat the goalie high on the stick side.
ICE forward Brock Montgomery received a major and game misconduct for interference. Rebels’ Colten Mayor left the game to an injury.
On the 5-minute powerplay the Rebels tied the game a Byron Froese scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
Less than a minute later the ICE took a 2-1 lead as Elgin Pearce took the puck at his blueline and went on a 2-on-1 break and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
ICE took a 3-1 lead on the powerplay as Max Reinhart got his team leading 18th goal.
At 7:12 of the period Christian Magnus was given a penalty shot and was stopped by Kuemper.
After killing 3 straight Red Deer powerplays the ICE scored a powerplay goal as Matt Faser on a 3-on-2 break fired a wrist shot that beat the goalie low on the stick side.
The season series is tied 2-2 with the home team winning each game.
ICE will visit Red Deer on Saturday.
