Kootenay 3 Medicine Hat 1 Game #41

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE goalie Nathan Lieuwen made 31 saves in a 3-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in WHL action on Sunday night.

The ICE (24-13-1-3) opened the scoring in the first period with Brendan Hurley firing a wrist shot that beat the goalie on the glove side.
Because of a skate problem Tigers goalie Tyler Bunz was replaced by Kenny Cameron for a few minutes in the midway point of the period.

In the second period the ICE took a 2-0 lead as Sam Reinhart got his own rebound and backhanded a chip shot over the goalies’ leg.
Sam Reinhart has points in 4 straight games.
The Tigers (24-15-2-2) scored on a powerplay as Emerson Etem got a breakaway and his shot went high on the stick side.

At 7:41 of the third period Hunter Shinkaruk was stopped on penalty shot.
The ICE took a 3-1 led on the powerplay as Jesse Ismond fed Elgin Pearce near the net and scored with a shot high on the glove side.
The Tigers pulled the goalie with 2:00 left and on the powerplay for a 2-man advnatge but failed to get another goal.

The WHL Trade Deadline is on Tuesday.
The ICE will visit Red Deer on Wednesday.
