Edmonton 3 Kootenay 1 Game #53

Edmonton, Alb – The Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Kootenay ICE 3-1 in WHL action on Tuesday afternoon.

In the first period the ICE (29-16-4-4) opened the scoring on the powerplay as Joey Leach’s attempted shot was deflected to Sam Reinhart who snapped a shot off the goalies’ arm into the net.
The ICE were a combined 0-for-8 on the powerplay in the 3 previous meetings against Edmonton.

The Oil Kings (35-12-2-4) tied the game late in the second period on an odd-man rush with Griffin Reinhart near the net for a redirection goal.

In the third period the Oil Kings had a 4-on-3 powerlay and Michael St. Croix gave them a 2-1 lead.
Rhett Rachinski added insurance with an empty net goal.

The ICE came into the game on a 2 game winning streak, the last winning streak longer than 2 games was November 30th when they won 6 in a row.

The ICE will host Red Deer on Friday.
