Lethbridge 4 Kootenay 2 Game #4

Cranbrook, BC – Lethbridge forward Russell Maxwell had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 4-2 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Saturday night.

ICE forwards Brock Montgomery (1-1-2) and Sam Reinhart (0-2-2) each had 2-point games.

The ICE opened the scoring on the powerplay as defenseman Jagger Dirk scored from the low corner with a shot that beat the goalie in the top corner on his short side.

Early in the second period Jaimen Yakubowski tied the game on a behind the net pass from Russell Maxwell.
Midway through the period the ICE took a 2-1 lead with Brock Montgomery scoring his 3rd of the season on a behind the net pass from Eric Benoit.
The Hurricanes tied the game on a 4-on-3 powerplay with a point shot from Daniel Johnston.
Lethbridge scored on a 2-man advantage with Russell Maxwell open near the crease.

Lethbridge scored their 3rd powerplay goal of the game in the 3rd period with Russell Maxwell alone in front of the net.
With 1:11 left in the 3rd period a mini-line brawl broke out with 3 fights at the same time.

ICE goalie Wyatt Hoflin made his WHL debut.
Both clubs’ had very young line-ups as they each had 7 17-year-olds and 2 16-year-olds in the game.

The ICE will host Prince Albert on Sunday October 7th.

The ICE traded 20-year-old forward Elgin Pearce to Medicine Hat and are now down the league limit of 3 over-agers with Joey Leach, Drew Czerwonka and Brock Montgomery.
The ICE had 8 over-agers going into the season. Max Reinhart turned pro and Luke Paulsen retired.
The club acquired a 5th round pick for Pearce, a 5th round pick for John Neibrandt (traded to Vancouver) and a 5th round pick for Dylen McKinlay (traded to Kelowna).
