Prince Albert 5 Kootenay 3 Game #5

Cranbrook, BC – Prince Albert forward Shane Danyluk had 2 goals and 1 assist in a 5-3 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Sunday night.

Kootenay (1-4-0-0) forward Brock Montgomery had 2 goals and Sam Reinhart had 3 assists for the ICE.

The Raiders (6-0-0-1) opened the scoring on an early first period powerplay with defenseman Sawyer Lange wristing a shot through the goalies’ legs.
Midway through the period the Raiders made it 2-0 with defenseman Davis Vandane alone in front of the net and scored with a redirection through the goalies legs.
Raiders made it 3-0 with German rookie Leon Draisaitl scoring his 1st career goal with a partial breakaway with a wrist shot high on the glove side.

At the start of the second period the ICE changed goalies with Wyatt Hoflin replacing Mackenzie Skapski.
Prince Albert made it 4-0 with Shane Danyluk finding a rebound in the crease behind the goalie.
The Raiders took a penalty while on a 5-on-3 powerplay and on the ensuing 4-on-3 penalty kill the ICE scored their first shorthanded goal of the year with Brock Montgomery stepping into a slap shot that beat the goalie high on the stick side. It was his 1st career SHG.
The ICE scored again 1:06 later on the powerplay as Sam Reinhart fed Brock Montgomery for a breakaway and scored his 2nd of the period.

Midway through the third period Jordyn Boyd put in a Jagger Dirk rebound for his 1st goal in an ICE uniform.
Prince Albert had 4 breakaways in the period and finally scored as Shane Danyluk got his 2nd of the game with a high backhand shot.

Raiders’ goalie Andy Desautels made his 1st WHL start and 2nd WHL appearance. 2 years ago he played 10 minutes in a game for Everett and had 1 goal against. Last year he played for Flin Flon in the SJHL.
It was the 3rd game in a row in Cranbrook that a goalie made his 1st WHL start with Regina’s Teagan Sacher and Kootenay’s Wyatt Hoflin doing it earlier during this homestand.

The ICE will host Prince George on Wednesday.
