Vancouver 6 Kootenay 3 Game #15

Cranbrook, BC – Vancouver Giants Marek Tvrdon had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 6-3 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Saturday night.

The ICE wrapped up a 6 game home with a 0-5-1-0 record.

The Giants (5-11-0-0) opened the scoring midway through the first period with Marek Tvrdon alone in front of the net for redirection goal off a pass from the corner from Kale Kessy.

Early in the second period the ICE (4-10-1-0) ICE tied the game on a shorthanded goal by Jon Martin who was alone near the crease and backhanded the puck under goalies’ pad.
The Giants then scored 3 goals in 3 1/2 minutes with Anthony Ast, Kale Kessy and Jackson Houck giving them a 4-1 lead.

The ICE changed goalies to start the third period with Mackenzie Skapski replacing Wyatt Hoflin.
Vancouver scored on the first shift of the period with Marek Tvrdon scoring with a backhand shot along the ice.
The ICE scored next with Kyle O’Connor notching his 2nd of the year with a long wrist shot.
Late in the period Sam Reinhart found a loose puck near the crease and scored his 4th of the season.
Giants added an empty net goal with Mason Geertsen getting his 1st career goal.

Cranbrook native Payton Lee made his 6th career appearance in net for the Giants. (3 last year as a 15-year-old)
ICE forward Brock Montgomery, who was named ICE player of the Month for September/October, played in career game #201 and is the 27th player in Franchise history to play in 200+ regular season games.

The ICE will visit Medicine Hat on Sunday.
