Kootenay 3 Red Deer 2 Game #40

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Erik Benoit scored 2 third period goals in a 3-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action on Sunday night.

The ICE have won a season high 5 games in a row and is their longest since winning 6 in a row in November 2011.

The Rebels (23-17-2-2) opened the scoring in the second period with Turner Elson getting a long shot to beat the goalie high on the stick side.
The ICE (15-24-1-0) tied the game with under 1-second left in the period on a powerlay goal by Sam Reinhart.

Midway through the period Erik Benoit came down the left wing a scored with a long wrist shot high on the glove side.
A few minutes later Luke Philp fed Erik Benoit at the backdoor for the goal to make it 3-1.
Red Deer scored with 3 ½ minutes left off a turnover in the slot with Matt Bellerive getting the goal.

Sam Reinhart (3 games), Jaedon Descheneau (3 games), Erik Benoit (3 games) and Joey Leach (5 games) all extended their point streaks.
The ICE had a season high 48 shots on goal.
The crowd was the smallest in Franchise history.

The ICE will host Edmonton on Tuesday.
