Kootenay 4 Brandon 3 OT Game #59

Brandon, Man – Kootenay ICE forward Jon Martin scored 2 goals, including the overtime winner, in a 4-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in WHL action on Saturday.

The Wheat Kings (21-34-3-2) scored a powerplay goal in the first period with Ryan Pulock scoring on a shot that went off the goalies’ shoulder into the net.

The ICE (28-29-2-0) tied the game early in the second period as Jagger Dirk point shot went off Brock Montgomery’s skate into the net.
5 minutes later the ICE took a 2-1 lead as Jordan Boyd fed Jon Martin near the crease for a redirection.
4 minutes later the ICE made it 3-1 as Kyle O’Connor received a behind the net pass from Levi Cable and scored on a one time shot high on the glove side.
O'Connor's last goal was December 4th and ended a 31 game goaless streak.
Late in the period the ICE hit the cross bar on a powerplay and as the penalty ended the Wheat Kings sent Nick Buonassisi on a breakaway who scored with a shot low on the stick side.

Early in the third period the Wheat Kings tied the game with a shorthanded rebound goal by Marek Kalus.

In overtime Jon Martin got his 2nd career multi-goal game as he scored with a wrist shot on the stickside.

Brock Montgomery (4 games) and Sam Reinhart (5 games) extended their point streaks.
The ICE are now 1 point out of a playoff spot.

The ICE will visit Swift Current on Monday.
