Kootenay 5 Calgary 4 Game #72

Calgary, Alb – Kootenay ICE forwards Jaedon Descheneau and Jordyn Boyd had 2 goal games in a 5-4 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Saturday.

The ICE (35-35-2-0) opened the scoring on a first period powerplay with Jaedon Descheneau going to the net and scoring with a forehand deke.
Midway through the period the ICE made it 2-0 on a 2-on-1 break and Descheneau got a wrist shot to go through the goalies legs.
Descheneau become the 3rd ICE player to reach 30 goals this season.
The ICE had none last season and had 3 in 2010-11 w/Max Reinhart, Kevin King and Matt Fraser. (4 if you include Cody Eakin with 36 w/ICE and Swift Current)

The Hitmen (46-21-1-4) scored early in the second period with Zane Jones near the crease to poke the puck into the net.
Calgary tied the game with Brady Brassart scoring with a shot through the goalies legs and Calder Brooks scored a power play to give them a 3-2 lead.
The ICE changed goalies as Mackenzie Skapski replace Wyatt Hoflin.
Skaspki played in his 65th game of the season which is Franchise Record for a goalie.
The ICE tied the game with 15-seconds left on a goal mouth scramble and Jordyn Boyd pushed the puck behind the fallen goalie.

Early in the third period the ICE took 4-3 lead on a spin around shot from Jordyn Boyd with his 2nd multi-goal game of the season.
The Hitmen tied the game with Brady Brassart’s 2nd of the game and 4th against the ICE this weekend.
The ICE made it 5-4 with Sam Reinhart getting his 7th GWG while in the slot for a wrist shot high on the glove side.

The ICE have finished with a .500 or better record for the 14th year in a row.
Mackenzie Skapski tied a Franchise Record with his 34th win (Jeff Glass 04-05, Dan Blackburn 99-00).
Head Coach Ryan McGill has tied Cory Clouston with 209 career regular season wins.

Jagger Dirk and Sam Reinhart played in all 72 regular season games.

Jaedon Descheneau (9 games) and Sam Reinhart (8 games) extended their point streaks.

The ICE will visit Edmonton on Friday in game 1 of their 1st round playoff series.
