Luke Philp's power-play marker 11 minutes into the second period held up as the game winner as the Kootenay ICE defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 Saturday at Enmax Centre.
Sam Reinhart finished with three points as the ICE rode three second-period goals to improve its winning streak to five games.
The ICE opened the scoring with just over five minutes left in the first period thanks to Zak Zborosky. The Regina native finished off a setup from Reinhart for his second goal in as many games, and sixth goal of the season as Kootenay took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The teams traded breakaway goals in quick succession in the second period. Lethbridge tied the game at 1-1 on Jamal Watson's ninth goal of the season at 3:56.
Less than three minutes later the ICE reclaimed the lead when Reinhart was sprung in alone on Hurricanes goaltender Zac Robidoux by linemate Jaedon Descheneau. The Kootenay captain made no mistake, scoring his third goal of the season with a hard wrister.
The ICE enjoyed their first power-play of the game shortly after the midway mark of period two, and capitalized quickly. Just 12 seconds into the man advantage, Philp rifled a slapshot past Robidoux to increase the Kootenay lead to 3-1.
River Beattie rounded out the second period scoring with 41 seconds remaining, jamming home a loose puck from in front of Robidoux's goal.
Lethbridge forward Tyler Wong scored the only goal of period three, slapping a power-play marker past ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin with 2:56 left in regulation time.
Hoflin made 20 saves to record the win, and in doing so surpassed 3,000 career regular season minutes played with Kootenay. The 22 shots allowed by the ICE matched a season-low.
Reinhart moved to within two assists of Jarret Stoll for the all-time franchise lead. Stoll recorded 162 helpers during his time with the Kootenay franchise.
