The ICE offense came to life in the second half of the opening frame. Down 2-0 on unassisted goals from Ethan Bear and Nolan Volcan, Kootenay found the back of Seattle netminder Danny Mumaugh's net at 12:13 when Zak Zborosky fired home his seventh goal of the year from the low slot.

Tim Bozon tied the game at 2-2 just under three minutes later, before Jaedon Descheneau set up Philp for the go-ahead marker with 28 seconds left in the period.

ICE captain Sam Reinhart extended the lead just shy of the five minute mark of period three, before Descheneau rounded out the scoring with an empty-netter, his team-leading 15th goal of the season.

Wyatt Hoflin made 16 saves to record the win in goal for Kootenay, while Mumaugh turned aside 21 shots for the Thunderbirds.

Kootenay 7 Moose Jaw 3

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/ice-win-third-straight-defeat-warriors
The Kootenay ICE exploded for six third-period goals en route to a 7-3 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors at Western Financial Place Sunday.

Forward Jon Martin punctuated his 200th career regular-season game with a four-point night, and Jaedon Descheneau and Levi Cable each scored a pair of goals as Kootenay won for the eighth time in its last nine games.

It was the Warriors though, who held the upper hand early, going ahead 1-0 just past the three-minute mark on a goal from new acquisition Jesse Shynkaruk. The 18 year-old scored for the second time in as many games after being picked up from the Kamloops Blazers earlier in the week.

Descheneau brought the ICE back on level terms at 10:41 of the first period, snapping home a power-play goal. But Moose Jaw took a 2-1 lead into the intermission after overage forward Jaimen Yakubowski put home his fifth goal of the season.

The Warriors increased their lead to 3-1 early in the second period on a hard point shot from defenseman Dallas Valentine that found its way through heavy traffic, caroming past Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin off a body and the goalpost.

The ICE found their groove offensively in period three, however. The power-play clicked again on a goal from Luke Philp at 3:39 before Cable slammed home the first of his two goals 23 seconds later to put the hosts back on level terms.

Cable put Kootenay in front just shy of the mid-way mark of the third period. After setting up Martin alone in front of Moose Jaw goaltender Brody Willms, the 20 year-old scooped up a rebound at the side of the net and deposited it into the goal.

Martin would score a similar goal just over a minute later, before Descheneau and Matt Alfaro rounded out the ICE attack in the final seven minutes of the game.

Martin matched an ICE franchise record by recording four points in one period Sunday, while Descheneau (four games) and Cable (three games) both extended their goal-scoring streaks.

Hoflin made 31 saves in goal for Kootenay, while Willms stopped 33 shots for the Warriors.

Sam Reinhart and Rinat Valiev each chipped in with two assists for the ICE. Forward Brayden Point led all scorers for Moose Jaw with two helpers.

UP NEXT: the ICE will play the next six games against U.S. Division opponents, beginning Friday in Portland. Game time is 4:00 pm.

Kootenay 3 Medicine Hat 0

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/hoflin-stops-48-in-ice-shutout-win
Wyatt Hoflin stopped all 48 shots he faced as the Kootenay ICE frustrated the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-0 Saturday in Medicine Hat.

Hoflin recorded his second career shutout, while the ICE chipped in offensively with a goal in each period to earn the victory against the Central division-leading Tigers.

Medicine Hat enjoyed a two-to-one shot advantage in the opening period, outshooting Kootenay 20-10 but the ICE held a 1-0 lead at the first intermission on Jaedon Descheneau's 12th goal of the season. Descheneau re-directed a hard slap-pass at the side of the net for a power-play goal at 13:49 of the first frame.

Hoflin faced flurries of offensive pressure all night, but continued to stymie the Tigers offense in period two. Kootenay outshot Medicine Hat 10-7 in the middle stanza, taking a 2-0 lead with just over four minutes remaining on Matt Alfaro's third goal of the year. The Calgary native was set up by linemate Jon Martin, who recorded his first point since returning from a month-long injury absence.

Hoflin made 21 of his career-high 48 saves in the third period, while the ICE added an insurance marker late when Levi Cable deposited the puck into Medicine Hat's empty net.

Kootenay finished the evening with 26 shots on goal, as Tigers goaltender Nick Schneider made 23 saves.

Descheneau and linemate Sam Reinhart extended their point streaks to six and seven games, respectively. Luke Philp and defenseman Cale Fleury both added assists Saturday.

Kootenay 5 Lethbridge 1

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/bozon-nets-pair-in-record-breaking-night

Tim Bozon scored twice, and Sam Reinhart became the ICE franchise leader in regular-season assists as the Kootenay ICE defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-1 in Cranbrook Friday.

Bozon's two second-period goals broke open a scoreless game, while Reinhart's two helpers vaulted him past Jarret Stoll as the club's career assist leader with 164.

It was on Bozon's first goal, 8:36 into the second period on which the Kootenay captain broke Stoll's 12 year-old record. The pair would connect again in the dying seconds of the middle frame to put the ICE ahead 2-0 after fourty minutes.

Lethbridge answered back in the opening minute of period three when Taylor Cooper banged a rebound home, but Kootenay's Levi Cable, one of three ICE players to return from injury Friday, fired in a goal of his own 25 seconds later to restore the home side's two-goal advantage.

Rinat Valiev tucked in an empty netter before Jaedon Descheneau completed the scoring ledger with his team-leading 11th tally of the season with five seconds remaining in the game.

Kootenay has come away victorious in each of the three meetings with the Hurricanes so far this season, and overall the ICE has won six of its past seven games.

Hoflin stopped 25 of 26 Lethbridge shots to record the victory in goal for Kootenay, while Zac Robidoux made 43 saves for Lethbridge.

Reinhart extended his point streak to six games Friday, while Descheneau has now collected a point in his last five contests. Bozon has scored 11 points in his last six games played.

Defenseman Rinat Valiev set a personal best with five points, notching one goal and four assists.

Cable joined Jon Martin and Kyle O'Connor in returning to the ICE lineup; it was Martin's first game since October 18th.

UP NEXT: the ICE visit the Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday (7:30 PM, Medicine Hat Arena) before returning home to host the Moose Jaw Warriors Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.

Medicine Hat 7 Kootenay 3

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/tigers-snap-ice-streak

Trevor Cox scored a hat-trick as the Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Kootenay ICE 7-3 Wednesday at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook.

The first-place Tigers snapped Kootenay's five-game losing streak, despite the hosts receiving three-point efforts from both Sam Reinhart and Tim Bozon.

Medicine Hat jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on goals from defenseman Tommy Vannelli and forward Blake Penner, though it was the ICE who held an 11-8 shot advantage through the opening frame.

Cox scored his first goal of the evening 41 seconds into period two, and after a Chad Labelle marker at the 7:17 mark prompted a Kootenay goaltending change, Cox added a second goal off a turnover in the ICE zone with 30 seconds left in the period, giving the Tigers a 5-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Kootenay solved Medicine Hat goaltender Marek Langhamer just before the five-minute mark of the third period when on a power-play, Jaedon Descheneau put home his team-leading tenth goal of the season. The Tigers answered back less than a minute later through first-year forward Mason Shaw to extend their lead to 6-1.

ICE forward Tim Bozon and Sam Reinhart cut into the deficit with goals 3:01 apart in the second half of the third period, but Cox would round out the scoring seconds after Reinhart's goal, completing his hat-trick in the process.

Langhamer made 35 saves to record the victory in goal for Medicine Hat, while ICE goaltenders Wyatt Hoflin and Keelan Williams split duties Wednesday.

Reinhart's two assists vault him into a tie with Jarret Stoll for the franchise lead in career regular-season helpers. Both players have recorded 162 assists.

UP NEXT: the ICE play three games in as many days this weekend, beginning with a matchup against the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday night. Game time is 7:00 at Western Financial Place.

Kootenay 4 Lethbridge 2

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/ice-run-winning-streak-to-five
Luke Philp's power-play marker 11 minutes into the second period held up as the game winner as the Kootenay ICE defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 Saturday at Enmax Centre.

Sam Reinhart finished with three points as the ICE rode three second-period goals to improve its winning streak to five games.

The ICE opened the scoring with just over five minutes left in the first period thanks to Zak Zborosky. The Regina native finished off a setup from Reinhart for his second goal in as many games, and sixth goal of the season as Kootenay took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The teams traded breakaway goals in quick succession in the second period. Lethbridge tied the game at 1-1 on Jamal Watson's ninth goal of the season at 3:56.

Less than three minutes later the ICE reclaimed the lead when Reinhart was sprung in alone on Hurricanes goaltender Zac Robidoux by linemate Jaedon Descheneau. The Kootenay captain made no mistake, scoring his third goal of the season with a hard wrister.

The ICE enjoyed their first power-play of the game shortly after the midway mark of period two, and capitalized quickly. Just 12 seconds into the man advantage, Philp rifled a slapshot past Robidoux to increase the Kootenay lead to 3-1.

River Beattie rounded out the second period scoring with 41 seconds remaining, jamming home a loose puck from in front of Robidoux's goal.

Lethbridge forward Tyler Wong scored the only goal of period three, slapping a power-play marker past ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin with 2:56 left in regulation time.

Hoflin made 20 saves to record the win, and in doing so surpassed 3,000 career regular season minutes played with Kootenay. The 22 shots allowed by the ICE matched a season-low.

Reinhart moved to within two assists of Jarret Stoll for the all-time franchise lead. Stoll recorded 162 helpers during his time with the Kootenay franchise.

UP NEXT: The ICE will play three of the next four games on home ice, beginning with a matchup against the Medicine Hat Tigers Wednesday, November 19th. Game time is 7:00 pm at Western Financial Place.

Kootenay 7 Calgary 6 OT

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/ice-edge-hitmen-in-overtime-thriller

Luke Philp's goal 14 seconds from the end of overtime helped the Kootenay ICE slip past the Calgary Hitmen 7-6 in Cranbrook Friday.

Philp finished with two goals on the night, while linemate Tim Bozon forced extra time for the home side with a short-handed marker 68 seconds from the end of the third period as Kootenay extended its winning streak to four games.

The ICE were forced to overcome deficits on multiple occasions Friday, including in the first period when the Hitmen jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a breakaway tally from Jake Virtanen and deflection goal from Taylor Sanheim.

But Kootenay closed the gap to one goal before the end of the opening frame thanks to Philp, who was one of five ICE players to finish with a multi-point night.

Kootenay equalized just shy of the four-minute mark of period two when Jaedon Descheneau rifled a hard wrist shot past Calgary goaltender Mack Shields. The ICE then took the lead at 12:16 thanks to Vince Loschiavo, who potted his third goal of the year.

The see-saw affair continued through the remainder of the second period, first on a short-handed goal from Chase Lang that tied the game at 3-3 before Tyler King and Adam Tambellini exchanged goals 2:11 apart in the late stages of the frame.

The Hitmen then took the first of their two third period leads on a goal from import forward Radel Fazleev, but Kootenay again tied the game through Zak Zborosky just over three minutes later.

Sanheim recorded his second goal of the game with 7:56 remaining in regulation time, caroming a shot through ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin from behind the goalline to give Calgary a 6-5 lead.

Kootenay continued to press, and moments after being thwarted on a glorious stop by Hitmen replacement goaltender Evan Johnson, ICE forward Tim Bozon wristed home a short-handed goal of his own from the left-wing circle to tie the score at 6-6 with 1:08 left to play.

Following Bozon's equalizer, Kootenay was forced to extinguish a 50 second five-on-three, with Hoflin standing tall in the final seconds of the period to force overtime.

With time winding down in the five minute extra period, the ICE found their game-winner, as Reinhart set up Philp in the right-wing circle for a wrist shot that eluded Johnson and banked into the net off the left post.

Hoflin made 32 saves to record the win in goal for Kootenay, while Johnson stopped 13 of 17 shots after coming on in relief of Shields after Loschiavo's second-period goal.

Friday's win marks the first time in ICE franchise history in which the team has collected victories in each of its first four overtime or shootout games.

With his four-assist performance, ICE forward Sam Reinhart moved to within four helpers of all-time franchise leader Jarret Stoll, who recorded 162 assists during his tenure with the club.

UP NEXT: The ICE hit the road Saturday for a visit with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Kootenay 3 Swift Current 2 SO

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/ice-slip-past-broncos-in-shootout

Luke Philp and Jaedon Descheneau each scored shootout goals to lift the Kootenay ICE to a 3-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos in Cranbrook Saturday.

Descheneau's quick wrist shot in the fifth round of the shootout eluded Bronco goaltender Landon Bow as the ICE won its third consecutive game.

Philp and Descheneau combined on the game's opening goal 11:12 into the first period, as Descheneau set up his linemate in the Broncos slot. Philp wired a snapshot past Bow's right arm from between the faceoff circles for his sixth goal of the season.

Swift Current leveled the score just over two and a half minutes later, as overage forward Coda Gordon snuck a low shot through ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin's pads after driving hard to the net from the right wing.

Kootenay reclaimed a one-goal lead early in period two thanks to Tim Bozon, who lifted a hard wrist shot into the top corner of the net from just outside the crease. The goal was initially waved off before video replay confirmed the puck had crossed the goalline.

Bow stopped 14 ICE shots he faced in the second period, as Kootenay outshot the Broncos 15-5 in the frame.

Swift Current, fresh off a three-goal comeback in Lethbridge Friday, again put themselves on level terms on an early third-period power-play thanks to a shot from Colby Cave from the slot.

Neither side was able to find a go-ahead marker through the remainder of the third period or overtime, with the ICE coming closest in extra time on a chance from the left-wing circle that forced Bow into a diving, desperation save with the paddle of his stick.

Swift Current scored first in the shootout through Coda Gordon, but Kootenay replied thanks to Philp in the third round on a similar goal to the one he scored in the first period.

Descheneau's goal put the ICE, who shot first in the shootout, ahead 2-1 in the fifth round. Broncos forward Carter Rigby then fired a puck over Hoflin's crossbar, sealing the visitors' fate.

Hoflin made 27 saves in goal for Kootenay, while Bow stopped 30 of 32 shots for Swift Current.

The ICE improved their overtime and shootout record to 3-0-0 this season with Saturday's victory.

UP NEXT: Kootenay's six-game home stand comes to a close Friday, November 14th against the Calgary Hitmen. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Kootenay 4 Edmonton 3

From Chris Wahl ... http://www.kootenayice.net/article/reinhart-goals-pace-ice-to-win

Sam Reinhart marked his return to the WHL with two goals as the Kootenay ICE defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 Friday at Western Financial Place.

Reinhart scored in the first minute of the first period, and again in the first minute of the second frame as the ICE posted its second successive victory on home ice.

The Buffalo Sabres draftee opened proceedings just 32 seconds into the game, as he followed a bouncing puck into the Oil Kings zone before cutting to the front of the net and backhanding a shot past netminder Tristan Jarry.

Edmonton responded less than six minutes later, however, when Luke Bertolucci pounced on a rebound in front of the Kootenay net. The score remained level at 1-1 through 20 minutes despite the ICE holding a 21-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Kootenay started the second period on a two-man advantage and again Reinhart showed his offensive flair, firing a shot over Jarry's shoulder from the bottom of the left circle at the 21 second mark after receiving a hard cross-crease pass from linemate Tim Bozon.

Again the Oil Kings evened the score in short order, as Lane Bauer hammered a one-timer from the left point for his fourth goal of the season.

The ICE reclaimed the lead before the midway mark of period two. Bozon claimed a rebound in the slot, before juking around an Edmonton defender and wiring a wrist shot past Jarry for his first goal of the season.

Austin Vetterl put the hosts ahead 4-2 on another Kootenay power-play 3:53 into the third period, tucking home a rebound to Jarry's right.

The Oil Kings replied on a man-advantage of their own 26 seconds after Vetterl's goal through an Aaron Irving one-timer, but ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin stopped all five other Edmonton shots in period three to preserve the Kootenay victory.

ICE defenseman Rinat Valiev led all scorers with three assists, while Bozon and Reinhart each enjoyed multi-point nights.

Defensemen Blake Orban and Brett Pollock each had two assists for the Oil Kings.

Hoflin made 19 saves to record his second win in as many starts, while Jarry turned aside 35 of the 39 shots he faced.
