Rinat valiev's goal 3:27 into extra time pushed the Kootenay ICE to a 4-3 victory over the Regina Pats Friday at Western Financial Place.
The Russian defenseman deflected ICE captain Sam Reinhart's shot from the high slot, then grabbed a rebound off the goalpost to deposit his seventh goal of the season and send Kootenay to its fourth consecutive home win.
The ICE held a 27-13 shot advantage on Regina through two periods, but could not solve Pats goaltender Daniel Wapple until the 15:19 mark of the second period, when forward Matt Alfaro deflected defenseman Tyler King's point shot into the Regina net.
Reinhart added a second Kootenay goal 39 seconds later after being sprung free on a breakaway by blueliner Cale Fleury, who launched a pass across two zones to send Reinhart past the Pats defense. The Buffalo Sabres' first-rounder rifled the puck over Wapple's left shoulder into the top corner of the net.
Austin Vetterl put the ICE ahead 3-0 on a late second-period power play before Regina captain Braden Christoffer got the visitors on the board with 1:09 remaining in the frame.
Regina struck again with 6:30 remaining in the third period, as forward Austin Wagner deflected a point shot through traffic to cut the Kootenay lead to 3-2.
Pavel Padakin tied the game 31 seconds later after finding a loose puck alone in front of ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin.
Neither side would find a regulation time winner, but Kootenay enjoyed a 3-0 shots on goal advantage in the overtime session, capped by Valiev's deciding goal.
Hoflin turned aside 24 shots for the ICE, while Wapple made 39 saves for the Pats.
Reinhart extended his point streak to ten games with a goal and an assist for Kootenay. King chipped in with two helpers while Alfaro also put up a multi-point effort.
Christoffer and defenseman Connor Hobbs both had multi-point nights for Regina.
The ICE improved to 6-0 in games decided by four-on-four overtime this season.
Kootenay forward Ryan Chynoweth appeared in his 200th WHL regular season game Friday.

Three early third-period goals paced the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 6-3 victory over the Kootenay ICE Wednesday in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Hurricanes goaltender Jayden Sittler stopped 38 of 41 shots, while import forward Pavel Skumatov's goal 2:39 into period three held up as the winner as Lethbridge ended Kootenay's four-game win streak.
The ICE enjoyed a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes after a flurry of offense late in the opening period. Kootenay forward Austin Vetterl opened the scoring on a rebound at 14:18 of the first period, but his goal was cancelled out 27 seconds later by the Hurricanes' Zane Franklin.
ICE captain Sam Reinhart restored the visitors' lead 18 seconds after Franklin's tally, as Kootenay held an 11-8 shot advantage at the first intermission.
The Hurricanes tied the game early in the second thanks to Brayden Burke, then went ahead with 6:07 remaining in period two through Tyler Wong's 21st goal of the year.
Skumatov, Giorgio Estephan and Brandon Kennedy broke the game open with goals inside the first seven minutes of period three.
Kootenay forward Tim Bozon rounded out the scoring with a snap shot on an ICE two-man advantage with six and a half minutes left to play.
Goaltender Wyatt Hoflin made 17 saves for Kootenay before being replaced by Keelan Williams in the third period.
Wednesday's game marked the first victory for Lethbridge against the ICE in four tries this season.

Four second-period goals paced the Kootenay ICE to a 7-4 triumph over the Prince George Cougars Sunday at Western Financial Place.
Forward Austin Wellsby's first career Western Hockey League goal stood up as the game-winner, while goaltender Keelan Williams made 26 saves to earn his first victory in the WHL.
The Cougars opened the scoring 54 seconds into the first period after a miscue in the ICE zone resulted in an own goal, but Kootenay quickly countered, as forward Tim Bozon ripped a one-timer past gnetminder Tavin Grant three and a half minutes later to level the score.
The ICE took a 2-1 lead at 8:26 of the opening frame after Levi Cable jammed home a rebound, but Prince George would equalize before the intermission through Chase Witala, who tucked in his 26th goal of the season on a late power-play.
Kootenay broke the game open in the second period with three unanswered goals, the first of which found Zak Zborosky alone at Grant's back post at 5:55 after a tic-tac-toe passing play with linemates Sam Reinhart and Bozon.
Jaedon Descheneau doubled the ICE lead to 4-2 just under six minutes later with a shot that snuck through the Cougar netminder. Kootenay extended the lead less than a minute later as Wellsby deflected a point shot that shattered blueliner Tyler King's stick.
Prince George defenseman Josh Connolly and Cable exchanged goals in the final five minutes of the second period as the hosts took a 6-3 lead to the intermission.
Bozon tallied his second goal of the game on an ICE power play 2:37 into the third period, finishing off a two-man breakaway with Descheneau from just outside the crease.
Jansen Harkins rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with a quick snapshot from the slot with 49 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Bozon, Descheneau and Luke Philp each finished the contests with three points for Kootenay, while Reinhart and Cable also enjoyed multi-point games.
ICE defenseman Tanner Lishchynsky, playing in his first game against his former club, recorded an assist and was a plus-three.
Harkins and Connolly both had three points for Prince George. Grant made 33 saves in goal for the Cougars.
UP NEXT: the ICE visit Lethbridge Wednesday before opening a seven-game home stand Friday versus the Regina Pats.
Four second-period goals paced the Kootenay ICE to a 7-4 triumph over the Prince George Cougars Sunday at Western Financial Place.
Forward Austin Wellsby's first career Western Hockey League goal stood up as the game-winner, while goaltender Keelan Williams made 26 saves to earn his first victory in the WHL.
The Cougars opened the scoring 54 seconds into the first period after a miscue in the ICE zone resulted in an own goal, but Kootenay quickly countered, as forward Tim Bozon ripped a one-timer past gnetminder Tavin Grant three and a half minutes later to level the score.
The ICE took a 2-1 lead at 8:26 of the opening frame after Levi Cable jammed home a rebound, but Prince George would equalize before the intermission through Chase Witala, who tucked in his 26th goal of the season on a late power-play.
Kootenay broke the game open in the second period with three unanswered goals, the first of which found Zak Zborosky alone at Grant's back post at 5:55 after a tic-tac-toe passing play with linemates Sam Reinhart and Bozon.
Jaedon Descheneau doubled the ICE lead to 4-2 just under six minutes later with a shot that snuck through the Cougar netminder. Kootenay extended the lead less than a minute later as Wellsby deflected a point shot that shattered blueliner Tyler King's stick.
Prince George defenseman Josh Connolly and Cable exchanged goals in the final five minutes of the second period as the hosts took a 6-3 lead to the intermission.
Bozon tallied his second goal of the game on an ICE power play 2:37 into the third period, finishing off a two-man breakaway with Descheneau from just outside the crease.
Jansen Harkins rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with a quick snapshot from the slot with 49 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Bozon, Descheneau and Luke Philp each finished the contests with three points for Kootenay, while Reinhart and Cable also enjoyed multi-point games.
ICE defenseman Tanner Lishchynsky, playing in his first game against his former club, recorded an assist and was a plus-three.
Harkins and Connolly both had three points for Prince George. Grant made 33 saves in goal for the Cougars.

Vetterl, playing in his 250th career WHL regular season game, put home a second-period breakaway before scoring a short-handed marker in the third period as Kootenay collected their third straight win.
The ICE went up 2-0 in the first 10:38 of the first period, opening the scoring on a nifty deflection by Luke Philp in the slot. The 19 year-old redirected Tanner Lishchynsky's point blast past Swift Current netminder Landon Bow for his 22nd goal of the season at the seven-minute mark.
Jaedon Descheneau tucked home a second goal for the home side before Jake DeBrusk rounded out the first period scoring with a marker for Swift Current in the final minute of the frame.
Kootenay went ahead 3-1 6:32 into period two, however, when Vetterl was sprung in alone on Bow from the Broncos blue line, sneaking a snapshot past the Swift Current goaltender in the process.
DeBrusk added a second goal for the Broncos on a power-play eight minutes later, deflecting a point shot of his own over the shoulder of ICE puckstopper Wyatt Hoflin.
Vetterl put his stamp on the game again early in the third period. With Kootenay short-handed, but Hoflin on the bench due to a delayed penalty against Swift Current, the Surrey B.C. native beat Bow for his second goal of the game, restoring the two-goal lead for the ICE.

Tim Bozon scored a hat-trick, and the ICE rode the strength of four unanswered goals in a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Thursday.
Kootenay fired 39 shots at the Edmonton goal, 29 of which came in the final fourty minutes as the ICE overcame an early 3-1 deficit to earn two valuable points over their Central Division rivals.
The Oil Kings opened the scored four and a half minutes into the first period on a backhand effort from Brett Pollock, but Kootenay quickly countered on a power-play two minutes later when Bozon deflected a shot past goaltender Tristan Jarry.
Pollock would add a second backhand goal just past the midway mark of the frame as Edmonton took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The hosts went up 3-1 halfway through the second period through Ben Carroll, but the ICE offensive pressure began to pay dividends late in the frame.
Bozon cut the Oil Kings lead to 3-2 on a breakaway at 17:28 before Tyler King fired home an equalizing marker with 49 seconds remaining in the period to put Kootenay back on level terms at the break.

A 39-save performance from Wyatt Hoflin helped the Kootenay ICE defeat the Vancouver Giants 4-3 Tuesday at Western Financial Place.
Four different ICE players found the back of the net, with Zak Zborosky's tally at 7:29 of the third period proving to be the deciding marker as Kootenay climbed back above the .500 mark.
The ICE opened the scoring late in the first period, as defenseman Tyler King snapped a point shot over the right shoulder of Giants netminder Payton Lee with 2:06 to play in the frame.
Vancouver replied off the opening faceoff in period two when rookie Tyler Benson scored his 11th goal of the season at the 15-second mark.
Kootenay broke the tie five minutes later on a breakaway tally from Luke Philp. The 19 year-old collected a long breakout pass from Troy Murray at the Giants blue line, then fired a shot that snuck through Lee.
River Beattie then scored his second goal in as many games just past the midway mark of the period, picking off a Vancouver breakout pass and backhanding a shot in from the bottom of the left-wing circle.
The Giants outshot the ICE 30-19 through 40 minutes, and closed the gap to 3-2 on a power-play at 3:08 on a point blast from Mason Geertsen.
Kootenay reclaimed its two-goal advantage just over four minutes later thanks to Zborosky, who collected a pass from linemate Sam Reinhart at the Vancouver blue line, wafted into the slot and snapped a shot into the top corner of the net.
Giants captain Dalton Sward rounded out the scoring in the dying seconds of the game, jamming a rebound under Hoflin's pad.
Hoflin has now won each of his last four starts when facing 40 or more shots.
Reinhart had two assists, while Zborosky also enjoyed a multi-point night.
Lee made 25 saves in goal for Vancouver.
UP NEXT: the ICE travel to Edmonton for a daytime affair with the Oil Kings Thursday. Game time is 11:30 am.

Wyatt Sloboshan broke a 2-2 tie with ten seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Saskatoon Blades to a 3-2 victory over the Kootenay ICE Saturday.
ICE captain Sam Reinhart scored late in the third period, and in doing so surpassed Jarret Stoll for the franchise lead in career regular season points with 287.
Kootenay, playing for the third time in four days, opened the scoring late in the second period when River Beattie tapped a rebound through the legs of Saskatoon goaltender Brock Hamm. Beattie's goal came at the end of a sequence that saw a pair of ICE players hit goalposts, and the visitors took the 1-0 lead to the second intermission.
The Blades responded early in the third period with a pair of goals 64 seconds apart. Josh Uhrich tied the game on a breakaway at 4:23 before a Nolan Reid point shot hit a body in front of Kootenay netminder Wyatt Hoflin and deflected into the goal.
Saskatoon held its lead until Reinhart's record-breaking goal at 17:09. The 19 year-old collected a pass from linemate Jaedon Descheneau and snapped his 10th goal of the season past Hamm.
Sloboshan, who scored twice when the two sides met a week ago at Western Financial Place, reclaimed the lead for the home side at 19:49 of the third period.
Hamm, making his second career WHL start, stopped 26 of 28 shots in goal for the Blades.
Hoflin made 29 saves for the ICE.
Reinhart takes over the franchise lead in points after 223 regular season games played with the ICE. His 176 assists are also a club record. Nigel Dawes remains Kootenay's all-time goals leader with 159 tallies.

The Kootenay ICE exploded for four third-period goals en route to a 5-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders Friday.
Luke Philp tallied twice, while Zak Zborosky collected his second game-winning goal against the Raiders this season as Kootenay snapped a four-game winless skid.
The ICE opened the scoring just past the eight-minute mark when Philp collected a pass from linemate Jaedon Descheneau, then beat Prince Albert netminder Rylan Parenteau from close range. The Canmore, Alberta native came close to doubling the Kootenay lead on a breakaway later in the frame but was denied by the Raiders goaltender.
The hosts equalized at the midpoint of the second period following an odd-man rush. After Tim Vanstone's initial shot was kicked out by ICE puckstopper Wyatt Hoflin, the rebound fell to Matteo Gennaro who poked home his fifth goal of the season.
Kootenay held a 29-22 shot advantage through 40 minutes, and the offensive production sprung to life during an eight-minute span in period three.
Philp wired a wrist shot past Parenteau from the high slot at 5:46 to put the ICE ahead 2-1. It was the 19 year-old's 20th goal of the campaign.
Zborosky snapped home a shot high to Parenteau's stick side to extend the lead four minutes later, before Ryan Chynoweth and Descheneau added insurance markers for Kootenay.
Import forward Simon Stransky completed the evening's scoring with a redirection in front of Hoflin with 4:35 remaining in the game.
Hoflin made 28 saves in the ICE goal, and has now won ten of his last 13 appearances when facing 30 or more shots.
Parenteau made 38 saves for Prince Albert.
Kootenay captain Sam Reinhart collected a pair of assists, putting him within a point of Jarret Stoll's franchise record total of 286.

Brayden Point's hat-trick goal 11:08 into the third period proved decisive as the Moose Jaw Warriors edged the Kootenay ICE 4-3 Wednesday at Mosaic Place.
The Warriors withstood a late ICE rally, with goaltender Zach Sawchenko turning aside 30 shots as Kootenay began its three-game East Division road trip with a defeat.
Moose Jaw led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play on a pair of breakaway goals from Point. A third breakaway goal off the stick of Torrin White helped the hosts increase their lead to 3-0 just prior to the midway mark of the second period.
Kootenay finally solved Sawchenko at 11:44 of period two on an odd-man rush, when Matt Alfaro dropped a pass to linemate Austin Vetterl, who put home his fourth goal of the season cutting the Warriors' lead to 3-1.
Rinat Valiev, playing in his first game since returning to the ICE from the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championships, shaved the deficit to 3-2 five and a half minutes later on a long range shot.
Kootenay outshot Moose Jaw 12-3 in the third period, but fell behind 4-2 on Point's hat-trick marker, which came on a Warrior power-play.
ICE captain Sam Reinhart brought his club back to within a goal a minute later on a nifty setup from Tim Bozon, but the Warriors held on the rest of the way collecting their second home victory over Kootenay this season.
ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin made 14 saves. The ICE power-play finished 0-5.

Brock Hamm made 28 saves in his first WHL start, and Wyatt Sloboshan scored twice as the Saskatoon Blades bested the Kootenay ICE 6-4 Saturday at Western Financial Place.
Luke Philp led the way offensively for the ICE with a goal and two assists, but Kootenay fell for the second time in as many nights on home ice.
The ICE took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to forward Levi Cable, who banked a rebound off the end boards past Hamm for the first of his two goals on the evening.
The Blades answered early in the second, though. New acquisition Brycen Martin snapped home a shot from the slot that caromed off the post into the Kootenay net.
Cable and Saskatoon captain Brett Stovin traded goals minutes later before the Blades got their first lead of the evening at 12:47 of the middle frame through Sloboshan, going ahead 3-2 on his fifth tally of the season.
The ICE responded less than three minutes later when Tim Bozon found space in the slot and wired a snapshot into the top right-hand corner.
Sloboshan reclaimed the Saskatoon lead before the intermission, jamming a rebound past the outstretched limbs of Kootenay goaltender Keelan Williams.
Cameron Hebig and Sam McKechnie added third-period markers for the Blades before Philp drew the ICE back to within two goals with three-and-a-half minutes remaining.
Martin had a goal and an assist for Saskatoon, while blueliner Kolton Dixon added three helpers.
Philp recorded his 100th career WHL regular season assist in the second period.
Williams stopped 35 shots in the Kootenay goal.

Taz Burman made 30 saves as the Red Deer Rebels frustrated the Kootenay ICE 3-1 Friday at Western Financial Place.
Kootenay defenseman Cale Fleury scored his first career WHL goal, but Presten Kopeck's tally 11 seconds from the end of the first period proved to be the game winner as Red Deer avenged last week's ICE victory in Central Alberta.
The Rebels opened the scoring 2:16 into the first period on Jeff de Wit's second goal of the campaign, then increased their lead to 2-0 in the dying seconds of the frame when Kopeck deflected home a wrist shot from linemate Connor Gay.
Kootenay outshot Red Deer 11-7 in each of the first two periods, but it was the visitors who increased their lead just past the midway mark of the third stanza on a power play goal from Riley Sheen.
Fleury would break Burman's shutout bid with 4:20 remaining in regulatino time on a setup from Luke Philp.

Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced the Club has acquired 19-year-old Defenseman Lenny Hackman from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a 12th round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Our goal heading into the WHL Trade Deadline was to add depth to our defense corps and we are happy to add a player with Lenny Hackman's experience and work ethic to our lineup. He is an excellent skater who we are anticipating will play some key minutes on our blue line,” added Chynoweth.
Hackman was a ninth round selection (179th Overall) in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and is in his third season with the Hurricanes. Hackman will join the ICE at practice today.
As a result of today’s transaction the ICE are now carrying 24 players, including two goaltenders, nine defenseman and 13 forwards.
